Happy Holidays to all of you AWESOME clinicians
While December can be the happiest season of all, it can also be a bit stressful. There is A LOT to juggle between your patients, co-workers, family and friends, but we are SLP's -- so we can rock this right!?!
Hope our newsletter gives you a much needed smile and maybe some helpful tip.
TOPIC OF THE MONTH
How do I convince my manager/administrator I need a swallow study?
Have you tried to order a swallow study and are met with bewildered looks or just a straight "no"?
Here are some suggestions....
1. GET TO KNOW your administrator. Ask questions...be curious about their job. When you take an interest and show you care about someone they are more likely to listen to you when you talk. Maybe even bring them a cup of coffee or lunch.
2. BE CONFIDENT in what you do. If you are not sure about what your patient needs and why, then ask a trusted mentor their opinion or do some research on your own. If you are not confident in what you are asking for, then don't expect your boss to be swayed.
3. CALL US. If you need help in justifying the need for a study or just want to talk through it with another SLP... we are here to talk it over and help in any way we can. Call or text Amy or myself if you have a question or just need to talk "dysphagia shop".
Since we are counting down to the 12 days of Christmas...Here's a fun video review of the 12 cranial nerves.

Now that winter is here and the cold weather is upon us.....PLEASE give your CNA's and caregivers a heads up to make sure patients have a coat or blanket when we are transporting them from the building to the van.
