Some people who have had COVID-19 (coronavirus) may have difficulties eating and drinking. They may also become tired more easily or feel breathless at times.

We naturally hold your breath when we swallow to prevent food or fluid from entering the lungs. Someone with breathing difficulties may have trouble coordinating breathing and swallowing.
Tips to help swallowing difficulties:
Sit up completely in a supportive chair while eating or drinking
Take small sips or bites
Eat or drink at a slower pace
Stop and rest if shortness of breath or fatigue occur
Eat little and often - 3 smaller meals and 3 snacks every day is recommended
Try eating softer foods that require less chewing
Limit speaking during meals as this can cause breathlessness
It is recommended that a physician is notified if swallowing difficulties are present.
